Paper Birthday Cake Using Basicgrey Cupcake Line
Hey Readers!!
This week i thought i would show everyone this adorable cake!! Basic Grey had this in one of their monthly newsletters, and i think it is just the cutest thing ever!! It would make such a cute center piece for the week of a family members birthday!!
~ Cupcake papers: Clown Nose, Celebrate, Confetti, Mac ‘n Cheese, Surprise, Candles & Frosting
~ Cupcake Monogram Stickers
~ Cupcake Fibers
~ Cupcake Buttons
~ Obscure Ribbon
~ Elbow Chipboard Monograms
~ Pale Blue Cardstock (for bottom box)
~ Mod Podge
~ 3 Round Paper Mache boxes with lids(Purchase at craft stores; such as hobby lobby or Michael’s)
~ Clear Glitter
~ Blue Glitter glue
~ 1 yard sheer 1″ ribbon (distress in light brown)
~ Hot glue gun
~ 9″ of 15 Gauge wire for WISH letters
Instructions!:
1. (Instructions are for each box) Trace the outside edge of the lid onto the backside of the paper then cut out and distress outside edges with the light brown ink. Apply the mod podge with a paint brush to the lid top and also to the backside of the paper then adhere to the lid top and also to the backside of the paper then adhere to the lid smoothing out any creases or air pockets. apply more mod podge to the top of the paper as you apply light pressure to ensure that the paper stays flat to the lid.
2. Measure the outside rim of the lid and cut paper strips an additional 1″ wider than needed so that you can cut a scallop edge. Distress edges with light brown ink and adhere the paper to the rim of the lid in the same manner as the as the lid top.
3. Measure the outside of the bottom of the box and cut paper to necessary measurements. Prepare and adhere the paper to the box bottom in the same manner as the lid.
4. Apply another two layers of mod podge to both of the box pieces making sure to hit both sides of the lid scallop edges for better strength o avoid tearing. After applying the last layer of Mod Podge to the box bottom, sprinkle on clear glitter if desired. Shake of excess and allow to dry.
5. stack and glue the boxes together with a hot glue gun.
6. To make the folded paper embellishments on the second box, cut seven 2″ x 12″ strips of the confetti paper, then accordion fold each strip at 1/4″ intervals. When the entire strip is folded bring the two longest ends together and adhere to form the half circle. Then adhere a button to the center.
7. for top box assemble a large bow with the sheer ribbon and the cupcake fibers. then adhere them to the box lid. Apply cupcake letter stickers to the elbow chipboard monograms to spell “WISH” apply a layer of mod podge to the letters and sprinkle with clear glitter. Hot glue a 3″ piece of wire to the back of each letter and hen dry poke holes in the box lid and insert the letters with wire. Add hot glue to the wire ends inside the lid. Measure and adhere ribbon to the bottom outside of the box bottom.
